Hagia Irene Church-Fatih

Hagia Irene Church – Hagia Irene Church, the first church built during the reign of the Fatih Byzantine Empire, is one of the important places to visit on the European side. When Mehmet the Conqueror took the lands of Istanbul, he did not order to turn this church into a mosque. In the 19th century, the church was converted into a museum and was called Müze-i Hümayun or Imperial Museum.
The building, which was the first museum of the Ottoman Empire, served as a Military Museum in the following years. In 1973, it was transferred to the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts. For this reason, many different cultural and artistic events are held here.
