Suleymaniye Mosque was built between 1551 and 1557 upon the orders of Suleiman the Magnificent, one of the most famous sultans of the Ottoman Period.
For the construction of the Suleymaniye Mosque, Architect Sinan thought through the minutest of details, making acoustic adjustments with empty cubes, and using ostrich eggs to protect the mosque from insect and scorpion invasion. Considering the mosque was built with such fine calculations, and is only the work of journeymen, it is really hard not to be fascinated.
The complex of the mosque also covers a very large area. In addition to areas such as madrasahs, hospitals, libraries, baths and schools, there are mausoleums in the complex in the names of Suleiman the Magnificent, Hürrem Sultan and the great Mimar Sinan himself.
Note:
The places we have mentioned as ‘favorites’ above are the most famous places of the historical peninsula of Istanbul. We strongly suggest they are places that visitors coming to Istanbul should definitely see and spend time at, and since our favorite places are within short walking-distance of each other, they are places that you should be able to visit comfortably in one day. If you are interested in shopping, traditional culture and fashion, you can spend more time in the Spice Bazaar and the Grand Bazaar, but while ‘strolling around Istanbul’ and visiting these places, don’t let your belongings weigh you down.
May we suggest therefore that you safely store your suitcases, belongings and shopping bags at ‘ Istanbul Luggage Storage ‘.
